He's 3! | Jim's 3 Year Update + Interview

I can't believe this little guy is 3 already!

He is such a sweetheart, such a boy, and such a stinker, all at the same time.

For his birthday, I let him decide what he wanted for breakfast and supper (within reason). He wanted granola for breakfast, so that's what I gave him!

He originally said that he wanted cake for supper, but I made him waffles and stacked them into a cake shape instead. A mom has her limits.

We also had bacon, eggs, and grapefruit. It was a delicious meal if I do say so myself.

Here Are a Few Facts About Jim at 3 Years Old:

  • Clothing: He's in size 3T for the most part. Some 3T pants are little long on him, depending on the style/brand. I'm guessing he'll transition to 4T shirts sometime during the summer or fall.
  • Sleeping: Glory be: Jim still takes his afternoon nap! I would say that 85% of the time he actually sleeps, which is wonderful. If he skips his nap, he's a cranky mess after supper.
  • Learning: It's amazing what he picks up from the rest of us. He definitely listens while I'm doing school with Helen. He is in love with "social studies" and can remember continents, countries, and oceans! One day this fall he randomly starting writing letters. I hadn't taught him how! It's just fun to see his mind expanding every day.
  • Chores: I expect Jim to keep his toys in his bedroom and his clothes off of the floor. He also has to put away his hat/coat/mittens/boots as soon as we get home. In a small house I have to be ON IT or it devolves into chaos quickly. Jim also wipes down the stools that the kids use in the bathroom, unloads non-breakable dishes and non-sharp utensils from the dishwasher, helps Helen transfer clothes from the washing machine to the dryer, and folds the clean wash cloths.
  • Potty Training: You guys, we're about 90% there with potty training! Hallelujah! This summer/fall Jim decided that he was interested in potty training, so I dropped everything and gave it a good go. He pretty much figured it out himself with guidance from Reuben and I. We still have him wear a pullup during naps and overnight. The other day we were out of the house and forgot to change him out of his underwear and into a pullup. He went accident-free the whole time (8+ hours)!
