He's 2! | Jim's 2 Year Update

James turned 2 this month! He hit a growth spurt recently, and he was just shoving food in his face and asking for it constantly. It seemed like he outgrew his 18 month clothes overnight.

It has been really fun to see this boy's personality develop. He is so sweet, and such a boy at the same time. He is obsessed with cars (particularly trucks). Even the way he talks is all boy. He's mostly a stoic, but he has a goofy side which is so funny to see come out.

For his birthday, I decided to make him banana pancakes.

It's super easy: just mash up a banana and add 2 eggs. I also added a scoop of collagen peptides and some cinnamon.

The kids LOVED them. They kept begging for more and more.

You can see their combined birthday cake over on Buttered Side Up: Chocolate Cake with Raspberries and Cream Cheese Frosting

Here are a few facts about Jim at 2 years old:

  • Clothing: He's in size 2T. The pants are usually a little long on him, but the shirts fit just right. Something funny to note: he is OBSESSED with PJs. He gets upset if I try to change out his PJ pants, especially his Penguin PJ Pants.
  • Diapers: He wears size 5 diapers, which is crazy to me! Helen was still in size 4 diapers right before she was potty trained.
  • Sleeping: I was super bummed when he dropped his second nap a couple of months ago. I can't get as much work done in a day. Now I usually put him down for his nap after lunch, around 12-12:30. He usually sleeps for about 11-12 hours at night.
  • Learning: I think this guy definitely has second child benefits. I haven't tried to teach him his ABCs at all, and he can already recited them very well. He's also pretty good at counting to 10. He hasn't mastered his colors yet, but he seems to be interested in them. He wanted me to read a color book to him 3 times the other day. He's actually pretty good at carrying a tune for his age.
  • Chores: I have James help me unload the non-breakable items from the dishwasher, and he helps tidy up his toys. He also loves to "help" Reuben wash the dishes.
  • Potty Training: Last summer/fall I tried having a "potty party" with James. It's basically the "Potty Train in a Few Days" method. He really wanted to do a good job, but he didn't really have control over himself which upset him. So I decided to hold off for a while. I mention every once in a while that he can wear big boy undies if he wants. He's taken me up on the offer a couple of times...for an hour or so. Ha!

I think that 2 is about the right age to start annual interviews, so I did one with James this year. Here it is:
