Our Duluth Trip

Well, I feel bad that it's been so long since I last wrote a post in this space, but I've been so busy and scatter-brained lately! I started homeschool preschool with Helen, and that + working part time as a food blogger has meant that I haven't had loads of extra time for this creative outlet. Plus, I just moved Buttered Side Up to Wordpress and updated the design, which took a lot of mental power. Haha!

So now I have a bit of catching up to do over here on Simple Days.

Back in August, we stayed in Duluth overnight at Reuben's cousin and his wife's house. They have such a charming spot - I love their vintage house! You can see the lake from it. And Taryn's garden - I'm so envious of her skills/hard work!

Here's a few of the things we did on our trip:

Our Duluth Trip
The first night, after a delicious supper that Taryn made us, we drive down to the rose garden and rock beach.

Our Duluth Trip
The kids loved throwing rocks into the lake.

Reuben's cousin, John.

We also made the boys slow down so we could admire the rose garden.

Our Duluth Trip
Thankfully there were still loads of roses blooming.

Our Duluth Trip
If you ever visit Duluth in the summer, I definitely recommend going to the rose garden!

Our Duluth Trip
Helen loved it. She had to stop and smell all the different kinds of roses.

The next day, after we had a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages, strawberries, and sourdough toast, we went to the aquarium in Duluth. There was a diving show where the workers fed the fish. I felt a little bit sorry for the guy that had to pose for photos, but I took one anyway. :D

Our Duluth Trip
We saw a big ship come in from an observatory room in the aquarium.

This shark was pretty big!

Look: a deep sea diver! :P

After the aquarium we went back to John and Taryn's place for a yummy lunch of pesto pasta. Then, after Jim took a nap, we headed out to an open house for Reuben's cousin's (a different cousin's) daughter. After that, we headed home!

I predicted that the kids wouldn't fall asleep on the (2+ hour) car ride home until half an hour before the end. I was almost exactly right.

It was a fun but tiring weekend, one which we won't soon forget!
